The Girls layout with Sherry

Hey ladies and gents, Sherry here with more crafty goodness! I am so incredibly in LOVE with Limor Webber Designs spray sets from Lindy's Stamp Gang! Since I couldn't seem to pick just one I picked a couple Limor Webber Designs sprays and away I went! So go dig out your favs, grab some wash tape and lets get crafting!

Step 1

I started by making light pencil lines around where I wanted my photo. Once photo placment was established, I started layering three different neutral colored wash tapes, keeping some pieces whole and some pieces ripped in different lengths. I kept layering till it looked perfect.  To avoid wasted tape, I avoided the area marked for the photo. This is why I like to mark photo placement on layouts.

 

Step 2

To mute the wash tape a bit i applied a light layer of gesso over top using my finger to smudge it over the tape. This will also help the sprays to stick better!

Starting with the lightest spray color, I sprayed a few small puddles and tilted the page to create some sideways drips. Next up was a bit of splatter of a darker spray. After unscrewing the top, I tapped the straw part of the nozzle to create splatters.

 

 

Step 3
Using Prima's grungy grip stencil, I applied whipped spackle onto the layout around where the photo would be and also in a few of the white spaces on the page. All to dry and add a few splatters of the same color from the last step.

 

Step 4

MT FAVORITE PART!!! I misted the paper down with water concentrating a bit more in the left side of the layout where I wanted a bit more color concentration. After unscrewing the tops or the three colors I used (bonjour butter, popping pink and orange creamcicle) I dragged the "straw" of the color over the area I wanted to color. As I applied layers of color, I would also tilt the page to create layers of drips.  I kept doing this and layering till I was happy with the intensity of the colors, this took a couple of layers.

Step 5

Final touches! Using some coiled up thread and foam adhesive, I adhered the photo into place. Then using varying sizes and shaped of white/cream flowers, I layered a floral arrangement around the photo focal point.

Once enough flowers were in place, I dry brushed them all with gesso. At the same time on my craft mat I dry brushed my letters with white gesso as well! After all the gesso was dry, I adhered the letters to the bottom right corner of the layout. (I wanted the letter to be super subtle!)

Using a fluffy brush, I picked up a bit of Magical dust and tapped it onto a few flowers. Then I repeated this with the other color I picked. (I used popping pink and luminous lemon) Once all the flowers were dusted with Magicals dust, I lightly sprayed them with water to activate the colors! Allow this to dry without a heat gun, this will prevent the colors from mixing!

Journal Layout with Izink inks

Hi everyone, it's Vicky here today and I am sharing another page of my mixed media journal.

I have been sharing here many of my pages from this mixed media journal and I am using different mediums and techniques in each page while keeping the same flower theme through out the book. For my layout today, I am using IZINK inks as the coloring medium.

IZINK inks are really fun to use since you can dilute them with water and you can get a watercolored look while at the same time it is permanent!



You can mix the inks and get a smooth blend, like I did on the background, or use them without blending for a watercolor look, just like I did on the flowers and leaves.



To finish off the layout I just had to do some embossing with "Bonjour Butter" embossing powder and also use my favorite border stamp from the "Rugged edges" set to frame my layout.

Journal page with Gelatos® by Vicky

Hi crafty friends! Vicky here and today I am sharing another page of my mixed media journal.

 

I have already shared the other two pages here and here of my mixed media journal, and they are all flower themed. So here is another page with lovely flowers today.



For this page I have used exclusively Gelatos® by Faber-Castell Design Memory Craft® as a coloring medium, both for the background and the flowers. You can easily replicate this page by using any flower stamp you have in your stash.

I just love how easy Gelatos® are to blend and you can make colorful and striking backgrounds effortless and within minutes. There are many techniques to blend them, with your fingers (best of all), with a baby wipe (for a paler look), by spraying water over them, with a brush... the possibilities are endless.  I do demonstrate most of them in the video below.

To color the flowers and the leaves I did some cheating ;) Instead of coloring/blending directly on the page I stamped them on another piece of paper and then colored and cut them out with my scissors. Then, all I had to do was a little bit of paper piecing. A technique that adds dimension on your page while keeping everything clean at the same time.

To finish off my page I did a little stencil with my favorite Whipped Spackle by Faber - Castell. I love this product because it adds dimension and brightness and it is so thick that you can never have any accidents through stencils. Works perfect every time and you can even color it with gelatos. I can not recommend this product enough!

Heart This Layout by Sherry Bienert

Hey my fabulous crafty friends! Sherry here with a beautiful, color filled layout using a variety of mediums and techniques. Today I will be featuring magicals, molding paste and gesso, so dig into your stash and play along!

First here is the full layout.

Lets get started,

 

I recently got the Lindy's Stamp Gang, Limor Webber Designs, Industrial Chic Starburst Sprays and Magicals. I fell in love from the first spray! I started using two contrasting colors (Time Travel Teal and Bonjour Butter from the Tres Chic Collection).  I started with the Bonjour Butter spraying  in the middle of the page and  dragging the spray towards the edges as I spray. Allow to dry, then repeat these steps with the Time Travel Teal.  Drying between each color, prevents the colors from totally blending.

NOTE: I left the barcode strip on because, I like to wrap it around my chipboard backing once the spray is dry.

 

To create more texture (Oh, I love texture!) I used a stencil and molding paste to accentuate the area where the photo will be. Allow to dry by itself, to keep any ridges and variances in the paste.  You can use a heat gun, but sometimes this can cause the paste to puff up, and lose some of the ridges and texture in your paste.

At this point I adhered the paper to a 12x12 piece of chipboard using matte gel medium. I find that using gel medium, as opposed to tape adhesive, on the entire chipboard piece helps to prevent bubbles and buckling in the paper.  I folded the barcode strip under the chipboard and adhered it onto the back, this also helps me to keep note of the paper used, for future reference.

Next up are my most used most loved stamps, my Limor Webber Designs Rugged Edge border stamps from IndigoBlu. I adore these because they are so versatile. They can be hard and distinct or soft and subtle! Keeping in mind where my photo will be placed at the end, I made impressions of the border stamps using black ink. I wanted the images to be crisp, clean and distinct.

 

This was my FAVORITE part of the whole process. Once I finished I almost didn't want to cover it with anything else, I almost didn't complete this project!

 

One of my new fav mediums was up next. Magicals have found their way into my heart and have been a staple in a lot of my recent projects. They are so versatile and can be used in so many ways, today I will sprinkle and use water to create drips and layers!

I used a variety of magical colors (Rusty Lantern, Summer Lovin Sun, T-Bird Turquoise and Shabby Turbine Teal) to create a ton of layers, color drips and blending. I started with my lightest colors and worked my way darker. I also did a lot of layers before I was happy. Starting with that lightest color I sprinkled it onto the horizontal plane along the centre of the page, then I sprayed it with water and tilted the paper to allowed it to drip both up and down the page. Allow your page to completely dry between each layer of color. I find that as you add colors, vibrancy increases.

 

 

Now the layering and embellishments go on! I created a clear banner out of a transparency sheet to place behind my photo.  I stamped it with the Rugged Edge Stamps,  and used the same stencil as in the second step to apply molding paste. I mounted my photo using foam dots onto this banner. Triple up on the foam dots for extra depth, and allowing my photo to extend to the depth of the floral cluster.

Keeping with some simple, neutral colored flowers of soft blues and yellows, I layered a few along each side of the banner. A few of the small flowers have wire stems so I curled them around a paintbrush handle and let them stick out from the edges of the arrangement.

 

I applied white gesso to the flowers. This gives the flowers a similar tone, and acts as a primer for the next step.  Allow the gesso to dry.  Do not heat set this, as it could scorch the fabric on the flowers, and cause it to burn or shrink.

Sprinkle the same magical colors onto the flowers and a bit onto the molding paste on the banner. Then spray with water. Allow them to bleed and blend into each other. Again wait for them to dry. I applied a second layer of magical color to increase the vibrancy of the tones.

                              VOILA layout complete! Here are a few close ups of this little gem!
