Heart This Layout by Sherry Bienert

2

Hey my fabulous crafty friends! Sherry here with a beautiful, color filled layout using a variety of mediums and techniques. Today I will be featuring magicals, molding paste and gesso, so dig into your stash and play along!

First here is the full layout.

Lets get started,

I recently got the Lindy's Stamp Gang, Limor Webber Designs, Industrial Chic Starburst Sprays and Magicals. I fell in love from the first spray! I started using two contrasting colors (Time Travel Teal and Bonjour Butter from the Tres Chic Collection).  I started with the Bonjour Butter spraying  in the middle of the page and  dragging the spray towards the edges as I spray. Allow to dry, then repeat these steps with the Time Travel Teal.  Drying between each color, prevents the colors from totally blending.

NOTE: I left the barcode strip on because, I like to wrap it around my chipboard backing once the spray is dry.

To create more texture (Oh, I love texture!) I used a stencil and molding paste to accentuate the area where the photo will be. Allow to dry by itself, to keep any ridges and variances in the paste.  You can use a heat gun, but sometimes this can cause the paste to puff up, and lose some of the ridges and texture in your paste.

At this point I adhered the paper to a 12x12 piece of chipboard using matte gel medium. I find that using gel medium, as opposed to tape adhesive, on the entire chipboard piece helps to prevent bubbles and buckling in the paper.  I folded the barcode strip under the chipboard and adhered it onto the back, this also helps me to keep note of the paper used, for future reference.

Next up are my most used most loved stamps, my Limor Webber Designs Rugged Edge border stamps from IndigoBlu. I adore these because they are so versatile. They can be hard and distinct or soft and subtle! Keeping in mind where my photo will be placed at the end, I made impressions of the border stamps using black ink. I wanted the images to be crisp, clean and distinct.

This was my FAVORITE part of the whole process. Once I finished I almost didn't want to cover it with anything else, I almost didn't complete this project!

One of my new fav mediums was up next. Magicals have found their way into my heart and have been a staple in a lot of my recent projects. They are so versatile and can be used in so many ways, today I will sprinkle and use water to create drips and layers!

I used a variety of magical colors (Rusty Lantern, Summer Lovin Sun, T-Bird Turquoise and Shabby Turbine Teal) to create a ton of layers, color drips and blending. I started with my lightest colors and worked my way darker. I also did a lot of layers before I was happy. Starting with that lightest color I sprinkled it onto the horizontal plane along the centre of the page, then I sprayed it with water and tilted the paper to allowed it to drip both up and down the page. Allow your page to completely dry between each layer of color. I find that as you add colors, vibrancy increases.

Now the layering and embellishments go on! I created a clear banner out of a transparency sheet to place behind my photo.  I stamped it with the Rugged Edge Stamps,  and used the same stencil as in the second step to apply molding paste. I mounted my photo using foam dots onto this banner. Triple up on the foam dots for extra depth, and allowing my photo to extend to the depth of the floral cluster.

Keeping with some simple, neutral colored flowers of soft blues and yellows, I layered a few along each side of the banner. A few of the small flowers have wire stems so I curled them around a paintbrush handle and let them stick out from the edges of the arrangement.

I applied white gesso to the flowers. This gives the flowers a similar tone, and acts as a primer for the next step.  Allow the gesso to dry.  Do not heat set this, as it could scorch the fabric on the flowers, and cause it to burn or shrink.

Sprinkle the same magical colors onto the flowers and a bit onto the molding paste on the banner. Then spray with water. Allow them to bleed and blend into each other. Again wait for them to dry. I applied a second layer of magical color to increase the vibrancy of the tones.

VOILA layout complete! Here are a few close ups of this little gem!

In This Moment

Tonya A. Gibbs for Limor Webber Designs

Hi everyone! The other day I shared on Instagram  that this amazing Happy Mail was delivered and I couldn’t wait to get my fingers inky! These collections are the Lindy’s Stamp Gang Limor Webber Designs On the Boardwalk, and Tres Chic lines in Flat Fabios, Sprays, Shots, and Embossing Powders.  Aren’t they gorgeous? I mean seriously these colors scream spring, and happy all in one luscious package!

For those of you unfamiliar with Flat Fabios – these are sprays with only pigment – no shimmer.    The embossing powders are soft and have a opalescent shimmer to them.  This gives them a soft iridescent look that is subtitle but gorgeous!

While snooping around my Facebook gallery, I found this picture of  my sweet niece, Addie, on her 3rd Birthday.   The colors in the photograph matched my new Lindy’s Stamp Gang Collection so well that I decided to create a unique background for my layout design using my new Lindy’s with The Crafter’s Workshop Mini Harlequin and Mini Gothic Romance stencils.

Look at all this yummy texture, and the colors are so girly, with a hint of grunge. Today I would like to walk you through the process of creating custom backgrounds for your layouts in the process video below.  I’m also going to share how to take a collection of random items and make them all work together to create a gorgeous embellishment cluster.  Doodling on your layouts helps to create a whimsical look and feel.  I recommend using the Pilot Perma Ball Journaling Pen
that Limor has in the store.

Here is the Process video:

Here is a glimpse at the finished layout.

The Little things

2
Sherry frame

Hi everyone Sherry here. This was one of those projects that I started on without a plan! Sometimes I find the best things come from a little spontaneity, a little bit of unplanned fun! This project came from uncommonly used colors and uncommonly used products! Sometimes we fall into a rut of the same old, same old and since I didn't start with a solid concrete plan, I thought I would pick out a few amazing products that got shoved to the back of my stash! So before we get started today I challenge all of you to dig deep, pull out some colors and a few mediums that need some love and create with me! As always I back up my background with heavy chipboard. This helps to give me a solid backing for support when I use sprays, stamping and mediums. (also great for displaying upright later)

I arranged my photos where I thought they would look nice and traced around them with a pencil. This ensures that any background texture and stamping that I do will peek out from behind the photos in the end.

Using my lightest spray (yellow) first I sprayed a large area peeking from behind all of the photos, then I allowed this to dry completely. Then added my medium color (orange) and sprayed so the
color would peek from the right side of the photos, allow this to dry completely. Using the third and darkest color (purple) I unscrewed the lid and used the tube to create circles that would show beyond the photos, allow to dry.

Now for the beautiful IndigoBlu Limor Webber stamps! Using ‘splattered heart’ large and small, ‘splattered butterfly’ small and ‘rugged edges’ I created a ton of texture peeking out from behind the
photos and along the right side of the layout! With the ‘splattered heart’ stamps.

unnamed

I used a black ink pad and stamped so the heart and splatters would stick out! Next came the ‘splattered butterfly, now I must admit this is one of my fav ways to stamp these days, I used Faber-Castell Design Memory Crafts® Stamper’s Big Brush Artist Pens to color the image. The reason I like the big brush pens for this is because they blend seamlessly together when you are using more then
one color, on a pre-prepped surface like mine! In this image I used a yellow and a pink to color the stamp, then made impressions wherever I thought they would peek out just right!

unnamed

Making use of the ‘rugged edge’ stamp set, I selected the splattered border stamp! and using the same coloring technique I stamped along where the photos would be wherever i hadn't already stamped. i did this to ensure i would cover up or hide the previously stamped butterflies! i also added texture to the right side of the layout using this same stamp and technique.

Now to add a bit of shine! It’s no big surprise that I adore the Indigo Blu Flitter Glu starter kits! these are an easy way to add metallic elements to any project. so today I did so using the Limor Webber ‘ink splatter’ stamp set.

unnamed

Quick ‘how to’ of the starter kit, you apply glue to the foam pad, press your stamp onto the foam and press lightly onto your surface. Sprinkle mega flakes onto glue image and rub lightly with your hand to press flakes into glue. then use black scrubby (comes in kits) and scrub the surface to reveal your image! I applied metallic images along the right side of the layout and along the edges of the where the photos would be.

unnamed

I have had string gel in my mediums trolley for ages and haven’t had the opportunity to give it a go so I decided this project would be it! I gently folded some white gesso into my string gel, the reason I
point out that I gently folded it in is because if you mix a lot or too vigorously you will create air bubbles that are tough to get rid of once they’re there!

I took a scoop of the string gel on a palette knife and tilt the palette knife to allow the medium to ‘drip’ off the end. As it starts to drip and touch the layout I made a circular motion to make rings of
string gel that peek out from where the photos will be and around where they will be. allow this to dry, I prefer to allow to air dry as it bubbles easily when heat gunned!

unnamed

I wanted to make sure that my photos stood out form the texture, color filled background so I put a little black gesso in on a paint palette and dragged the edges of my photos through the paint on all
four sides. Allow this to dry, before adding your photo to the layout. Using pop dots on the middle photo and tape adhesive on the top and bottom photo, I adhered my photos to the layout.
